Presentation of the 2009 Senior World Championships
The city of Mâcon was entrusted with its organisation by the
Fédération Internationale de Boules, via the Fédération
Française du Sport-boules, with the Comité Bouliste
de Saône et Loire's and the Comité de Bourgogne's agreement.
These championships take place every two-years. They occurred in Grude,
Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2007 and will occur in Italy in 2011.
The City of Mâcon, who wished to organise this big event, is
a city that favours sports and competition. Earning the title of most
athletic city in 2001, it regularly hosts great sports events: the
Tour de France in 2002 and 2006 ; the european labelled Rallye des
Vins in 2008 ; an ATP tennis tournament in 2007 ; an international
under-17 soccer match opposing France to Netherlands ; the fifth Jeux
de Saône-et-Loire, a local replica of the Olympic Games that
gathered 4, 000 young people in 37 sports ; a pétanque tournament
in 2008 ; the National in “four” championships in 2001
and 2007, and the National Sports Clubs Championships in 2006.
The Entente Sportive Bouliste du Mâconnais is used to this kind
of challenge and will know how to take it up thanks to its dynamism.
It will rely on the skills in organisation of the City of Mâcon
to manage these world championships. The competition will take place
at the “Parc des Expositions”, which will be widely opened
for the promotion of Boules Sports. Two exhibition halls will be fitted
out with 16 playing areas and 2, 500 stand seats. During the seven-day
competition, and in order to make players, managers and members of
the audience feel like coming back to our region, they will be welcomed
by a 500 m² marquee dedicated to the presentation of the Mâcon
area, with local authorities and partners taking part. An artistic
space will be available, with an exhibition of sculptures, paintings
and pictures. A variety of regional products will also be presented
to account for the wealth of our land.
These world championships are for the City of Mâcon and the
Entente Sportive Bouliste du Mâconnais an important stake and
will provide advantages on sports, economic, social and cultural levels
